The Comedy Club

OK, soooo boredom has struck again. Let me set up a picture for you. It's Saturday... I had to go for job training, in bath and body works, at three in the afternoon. I was there for about five hours. Some of the tasks were: smelling EVERY single fragrance in the store and writin a review for them; watching about two hours worth of videos; Being a floor model; working at the cash register; and learning how to do stock work. It happened to be a long day for me. When I was done, I got a ride back to the dorms, just to walk into a room with my 2 best guy friends being bored....

We decide to go to a comedy club in times square. Caroline's... We drive to Jersey City in order to catch a path train into the city. Mind you, it is pouring at this point and I was wearing flats!!! The path station was swarmed with many busy bodies. We're standing on the line to get a metrocard for about 10 minutes. Of course, we couldn't be normal human beings and just stand there like we were civilized. Every chance my buddies could get, they would scare me with a "there's a mouse by your foot!" statement. I would overract with my obnoxiously loud screams and make a scene, for no apparent reason.

Finally, we were next. I go up to the machine and see a bunch of options which was quite intimidating at first. However, once I figured it out, I felt confident. But then I would see a chubby, stub-like finger touch a random part of the screen, causing me to have to restart about 5 times. After that, we went onto the platform and waited for the train, which only happened to be like a minute or 2. We made it just in time. To all of our surprises, we were able to snatch seats! Sorry, I don't have any crazy subway train stories. Twenty minutes later, we are in the city!! =)

Walking in NY is a mission in itself. I think that walking traffic in times square is 90 times worse than car traffic. We walk 17 blocks to the comedy club, in the pouring rain. My shoes felt like they were pools. Not to mention, all 3 of us were wearing our thin Caldwell hoodies, while it was like 30 degrees out. I kept forgetting that the street traffic was different in NY than it is in NJ and I would step into the middle of the street while the light was green, only to see that the cars were not stopping. I'm not going to lie, I was scared half to death a few times.

We see a little light in front of us... CAROLINES!!! We ran to get there because of the excitement to get inside. When you walk in, you are welcomed by a long staircase that goes downward. It was dark inside but the carpet on the stairs were orange, which made it easy to see where we were going. After that seemingly endless staircase walk, we enter a large room full of tables and chairs, dimly lit as well. Our host takes us to our table, towards the back.

The underground comedian stepped onto the stage. He had cocoa colored skin, could have been in his 40s, and was kind of short. His main theme was about the recent election. He would mock Obama's ethnicity, Biden's appearance, and McCain's age. HE also went into random side jokes, as well. One of the jokes he said was about how rats rule the city and how the walk around on their back legs, scaring the pedestrians of new york. He also made a racial pun about how America has a good swim team because of the amount of cubans that they have gotten over the years. He had something to saw for just about every ethnic group out there. This comedian kept the entire audience entertained for about three hours straight. I personally couldn't stop laughing.

When the show was over, I would say the jokes over and over again, driving my friends crazyyyyyyyy. I have to say, I highly recommend going to a comedy club, if you are ever bored. Just keep an open mind and don't take anything the comedian says personally. Be prepared for a lot of laughter and randomness. I was so satisfied with my night, even though I was exhausted!

Boredom

So, I currently dorm at Caldwell. At times, it does get a tad boring. However, when you stick three people, who are completely random, together, it can get entertaining. These past few weekends I decided that I would stay on campus, just to get the full experience of dorm life. It has actually been fun.

This past weekend, my friends Greg, Brandon, and I were super bored and tired at the same time. However, we made a promise that we weren't going to bed early because it was the weekend! This may seem a little creepish, but we are obsessed with the weird nj magazines and website. For some reason, we like to get scared and go to these "haunted" and strange places. We went to Heart Beat Road as one of our random adventures for the weekend. The story behind this road is that some years ago in the 1960s, two teens were parked at the boulder engaged in "lover's lane" activities. Without warning, a crazed woodsman jumped from behind the boulder wielding a large hatchet. The boyfriend jumped from the car and fled the scene in terror, leaving his date to the mercy of the madman. The youth ran all the way home, some five miles. The girl was never found. Supposedly you can hear the heart beats of the girl whenever you keep the car off on the road.

Of course, we were not completely convinced of this. We left the dorms at around 11:30 to check it out. It was about a 20 minute drive. The closer we got to the road, the more I would try to scare Greg, who was driving. However, he is so hard to scare. Turns out, Brandon was the one who was the most scared. All of a sudden, we come to a complete stop. I look up and there is a little sign that says "Paven Road", which is the real name of this legendary road. I'm not going to lie, at this point, I was scared.

It was a really small road and it was dark, it looked like an alley, which made it even more creepier. I wasn't trying to scare them anymore because I was officially nervous. Greg turned down the road and it was too quiet for me. I think what made it worse was the darkness of the road. Also, there were trees that had branches that reminded me of something out of a Tim Burton movie. It seemed lifeless, this short winding road in the middle of nowhere. All three of us got really quiet all of a sudden because we didn't know what to expect. I didn't want to seem like the scared one, so i suggested that we should get out of the car and walk on this road. But i didn't think that they would do it!!! Boy, was I wrong!

So, Greg parked his car on the side of the road and turned the car off. It was completely dark. We all just sat there in complete silence because we wanted to hear the thumping. Of course, being the paranoid teenagers that we are, we "heard" the thumping noise of a heart beat. I was the first to scream because I was scared. Greg was getting pumped at this time. He wanted to get out of the car and walk around.

I was extremely nervous, but I agreed because I didn't want to be left by myself in the car. Greg was the first one to get out. Brandon got out next but I had to convince him to get out. I was the last one to get out of the car, I was so nervous. All I can remember is that I kept saying "Hey guys, I don't think I like this anymore." But Greg didn't want to hear that. He had to pull me and Brandon away from the car. I latched onto Brandon's arm and we all slowly started walking on this extremely dark, endless road.

We walked for about 5 minutes on this road, when all of a sudden we heard a noise, like someone was walking, in the wooded area. All three of us froze and looked at each other. Greg kind of reminded me of a deer that just say headlights. It was quite funny. Brandon was the first one to start running back to the car, and of course, out of an impulse, me and Greg ran too. I never saw him run as fast as he did that night. Brandon, then opened the drivers door and leaped into the car and some how wound up in the passenger seat and locked the doors. This still amazes me to this day.

We had to like bang on the windows to make him open the doors. He's laughing histerically at us, but we were not amused at this point because we were still "hearing" creepy noises. He finally opened the doors for us and Greg and i HOPPED into the car. He sped off the road because we really didn't want to be there anymore. The car ride was completely silent because I think the nervousness got the best of us.

So, I just have a few words of advice. If you're going to do some weird NJ stunt, be ready to get scared. It might not be the myths that they talk about. For example, it can just be teenagers trying to scare you. Either way, be prepared, because if you're not, you will have a rude awakening once you get there.

However, I DO recommend going to these places because they give you great experiences and memories!
